Repenting and confessing of ones has been a topic which most believers have argued about several times. I have come to realise that true repentance is when one intentionally set to guide their hearts, minds and ways in order not to fall. Yes sin is inevitable and just as robbery is a sin so is habouring resentment. But by focusing on Christ daily and "bringing your thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Jesus Christ," Your ways tend to align with His Word. You become more Christ-conscious rather than sin-conscious.
On the other hand, "Confessing your sin is to be seen as an idea of cleansing your heart not as a judgement that your heart is dirty, but as God's call for you to get completely right before Him so He can bring all the blessings He has for you into your life. See it as God preparing you for the important work He has ahead for you to do."*
There was a time when out of anger i blurted out to my husband that I am sure we will be separated by the time the kids leave home. He never said nothing but deep inside i knew it was a hurtful thing to say. Later down the line as i begun to pray to God to get intimate and closer to Him, the Spirit of God reminded me of what i had said. Immediately i felt a sense of remorse and i prayed to God for forgiveness and to cleanse me of anything i may have said or done which is a hindrance to my fellowship with Him and to my husband.......One of the things we don't realise is, failing to acknowledge our wrong doings before God stops our very own blessings from manifesting. So we need to regularly access ourselves and repent of anything which might hinder us from receiving such blessings.
PRAYER
Lord, I come humbly before You and ask You to cleanse my heart of every fault and renew right spirit within me. Forgive me for thoughts I have had, words I have spoken, and things that i have done that are not glorifying to You or are in direct contradiction to Your commands. Specifically, I confess to You(name any thoughts, words or actions that you know are not pleasing to God). I confess it as sin and i repent of it. I choose to walk away from this pattern of thought or action and live Your way. I know that You are "gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness" (Joel 2:13). Forgive me for ever taking that for granted.
heart"
Lord, I realise that You are a God who "knows the secrets of the heart" (Psalm 44:21). Reveal those to me if I am not seeing them. Show me any place in my life where I harbour sin in my thoughts, words or actions that i have not recognised. Show me the truth about myself so that I can see it clearly. Examine my soul and expose my motives to reveal what i need to understand. I am willing to give up meaningless and unfruitful habits that are not Your best for my life. Enable me to make changes where I need to do so. Open my eyes to what I need to see so that I can confess all sin and repent of it. I want to cleanse my hands and purify my heart as You have commanded in Your Word (James 4:8).
I pray that You will "have mercy on me, O God, according to Your loving-kindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin" (Psalm 51:1-2). Lord, "Create in me a clean heart.......and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me" (Psalm 51:10-11). "Cleanse me from secret faults" (Psalm 19:12). "See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:24). Make me clean and right before You. I want to receive Your forgiveness so that times of refreshing may come from Your presence (Acts 3:19). Amen.
